This LGBT training focuses on the diversity of terms and identities in LGBT communities, how to create a welcoming and inclusive service environment for LGBT individuals and families, suggested solutions to LGBT-related client concerns, and practical guidelines for implementing LGBT-inclusive organizational policies and procedures.
 
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 
  • Define terms, identities, and concepts associated with LGBT communities
 
  • Utilize culturally appropriate language and behavior for addressing and working with LGBT populations
 
  • Describe the myriad socioeconomic, health, and legal issues that LGBT people face
 
  • Develop treatment strategies and service approaches for working with LGBT individuals and families
 
  • Identify steps your organization can take to improve services for LGBT populations
 
 
  Culturally Competent Approaches for Serving Transgender Populations
 
This transgender-specific training focuses on the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity, the spectrum of gender identity, medical transition, health care access, legal issues, how to show respect to the population, practical guidelines for providing equal access in gender-specific service environments, and suggested solutions to transgender-related client and organizational concerns.
 
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 
  • Define terms, identities, and concepts associated with transgender communities
 
  • Utilize culturally appropriate language and behavior for addressing and working with transgender populations
 
  • Describe the myriad socioeconomic, health, and legal issues that transgender people face
 
  • Develop treatment strategies and service approaches for working with transgender individuals and families
 
  • Identify steps your organization can take to improve services for transgender populations
 
 
  Strengthening Linkages between Health Service Providers and LGBT Community Resources
 
This training provides tools for creating services that are welcoming and inclusive to LGBT populations, strategies for navigating resistance to LGBT-inclusive services, how to access local, state, and national LGBT resources, and practical solutions to marketing and outreach challenges.
 
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 
  • Utilize methods for designing and implementing LGBT-inclusive services
 
  • Implement methods for identifying and accessing LGBT resources and referrals
 
  • Execute outreach and marketing options for areas with vibrant LGBT communities as well as areas with no visible LGBT community
